The Inn With Three Names
On Saturday 1st September 1973,
the New Inn, in Farnborough Village became in turn the Golden Nugget Saloon and later the Change of Horses by which name it is now known.
The New Inn has been in existance since c1785 and was on the London to Sevenoaks road. It provided a change of horses for the stage coach on this route.
On 1.9.1973 the innkeeper, Sid Batt, was granted a special licence and the Inn was renamed the Golden Nugget Saloon from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to coincide with the annual Farnborough Fair which on this day adopted a "Wild West" theme.
At 5.30 p.m. the name altered to the Change of Horses - thus being the only Inn with 3 names in one day.
