Ninepenny Marl

Simple Gifts (FolkSound Records - FSCD 69)

Formed in the 70's this is a Coventry based four part vocal harmony group, concentrating mainly on songs of the British Isles. Members are Des Patalong, Gareth and Barbara Wyatt and Linda Dickson. The name "Ninepenny Marl" is the Warwickshire equivalent of the name for the game of Nine Man's Morris, played by shepherds using stones.
There are 17 tracks on this CD, all firmly sung and ranging from the rousing 'Marching Through Georgia', the Shaker hymn, 'Simple Gifts', the vibrant 'Babylon is Falling' to Who killed Cock Robin'.

Lots of variety, excellent stuff!
