Deep Waters (Cosmic Records - CR11004)

Stavia Blunt is a singer songwriter. She grew up in Kenya, was sent to boarding school in England then to Oxford to study Medicine and later trained as a neurologist. While still working as a doctor, Stavia joined a folk-rock band and in 1999 she started working solely on her own material. This is her fifth CD.
It has no folk content at all. It is a collection of 11 love related songs looking at various aspects of a relationship. We start by falling in love - "Falling" falling out of love - "I don't need you" and becoming friends - "Just can't help it".
She has a light unremarkable voice and I thought the songs, though inoffensive, not special. She is joined by Grant Jamieson (guitar), Rob Fergus-Smith (drums) and Tim Hamill (guitar). Lyrics are printed on the inlay.

Ivan North.
